Ask it

In a couple of decades, what would you have asked? What do you wish you had known? Don’t wait until it’s too late. Do it now.

Try to prepare some questions in advance, but you can also be spontaneous. If the mood hits you, just start asking questions. And if there's a choice between doing an interview where you’re unprepared versus not doing it at all, carpe diem. Just go for it.

This shouldn’t feel like a chore, or homework, or a test. It’s the opposite—there are no bad questions or wrong answers. This is just two humans having a real conversation about life.

So what’s your motivation? It helps to picture yourself in their shoes. Think about how they might have felt and relate it to your own life. Truly live in that moment, and most importantly, listen.
